Weekend day-outs
Starting from Songshan Station and heading all the way north: a morning stroll through Beitou's hot spring street, sunset in Tamsui in the evening
Starting from Songshan Station at the end of the Green Line, fit both Beitou and Tamsui into one day: spend the morning at Beitou Library, the Hot Spring Museum and Thermal Valley, the afternoon on Tamsui Old Street and at Fort San Domingo, then catch the sunset at Fisherman's Wharf in the evening.

Songshan Station is the end of the Songshan-Xindian Line (Green Line). To get to Beitou or Tamsui, you first ride to Zhongshan Station, then take the Red Line all the way to its northern end. Since it's a long ride anyway, why not fit both places into the same day: a walk in Beitou in the morning, Tamsui in the afternoon, and waiting for the sunset at the river mouth in the early evening. From Songlong House to the MRT station: Songshan Station (Songshan-Xindian Line), about a 4-minute walk.

The outdoor hot spring bath in Beitou Park (Millennium Hot Spring) has been closed for renovation since 24 January 2025. The parks office has announced that the work is expected to be completed on 31 October 2026, but the reopening date depends on its official announcements, so don't make a special trip for it.Afternoon13:30

- The three spots in Beitou are all within walking distance of each other, and you can also walk from Tamsui Old Street to Fort San Domingo. Wear comfortable shoes.
- Official information about the ferry from Tamsui Ferry Pier to Fisherman's Wharf is currently contradictory, and the service may be suspended. Check before you set out, and don't count on the boat for your way back.

- EasyCard: The three MRT legs come to NT$130 in total, which is cheaper than the NT$150 one-day pass, so just tap your card.
- YouBike: Taipei City and New Taipei City both currently subsidise the first 30 minutes of YouBike 2.0 rides for registered members, so they are free (in New Taipei since 1 March 2025). This also applies in Tamsui. Regular members riding the e-assist YouBike 2.0E are not covered.
- Rainy-day plan: Spend more time at Beitou Library and the Hot Spring Museum, and skip Fisherman's Wharf. Fort San Domingo is closed on typhoon days.
FAQ
Can I do this route on a Monday?
We don't recommend it. The Hot Spring Museum and Thermal Valley are closed on Mondays, and Fort San Domingo is closed on the first Monday of each month (the remaining dates in 2026 are 2 November and 7 December).
How long does it take from Tamsui to Taipei Main Station?
About 38 minutes on the train, and a full-fare ticket is NT$50.
If you'd like to make your home around Songshan Station and head off easily in any direction at weekends, take a look at Songlong House.
